Domaine Lebreuil
Savigny-les-Beaune is nestled in a valley formed by the Rhoin river to the west of Beaune and the Lebreuil estate is based right in the heart of the village. After his paternal grandparents established the estate in 1935, Jean-Baptiste took over the estate in 2001 which now has 10.5ha under vine in the villages of Savigny-les-Beaune and Aloxe-Corton.
We first met Jean-Baptitste at a tasting in March 2018, and immediately loved him and his wines. They were generous and fruit driven as are most Savigny wines. At the domaine they practice ‘lutte raisonnée’ viticulture (lit. ‘the reasoned struggle’), which is to say that the vine is treated only when under attack from a virulent disease. Farming practices are organic, and intense pruning reduces the yields and ensures healthy fruit. Biodynamic practices started in 2011 and wine production is conducted along traditional lines with harvesting by hand and a rigorous selection made on the vine.
