Chateau Bonnet
Siblings Charlotte and Julien Perrachon from Chateau Bonnet in the village of Chenas make attractive Beaujolais. A familiar story lies here with the two siblings taking over the reins from their father Pierre-Yves, on a property dating back to 1630. Julien is working with his strengths in the vineyard, and he still loves to pick the brain of his Grandfather who lives on the estate, while his sister Charlotte is the winemaker having recently completed her studies in Beaune and some international workplace experience, including here in Australia. In fact, their Moulin à Vent ‘Vin de Garde’ idea pays homage to her love of the winery dogs she encountered here in Australia, and the dog in the picture is their estate dog in Beaujolais, Nesquik!
Jasper Morris MW on the 2022 Beaujolais Vintage: “2022 is something of a classic, despite being an August vintage. Since I first tasted this vintage in April 2023, the wines have firmed up and become more evidently structured. I find 2022 overall well balanced, with fine but firm structures suitable for the longer term – and with impressive fruit intensity.”
After so much searching we are really excited to fill the Beaujolais gap in our range with such high quality wines. We enjoyed these wines immensely; they were lively, juicy, and complex examples of Gamay and each represents the nuances of their respective Cru; Chenas, Julienas and Moulin à Vent.
Wines Imported
-
Medium purple. The nose is at first a little reticent. Fine intensity though on the palate, darker fruit and some peppery grip on the finish. Can be cellared for 5+ years.
-
A deep purple. Tough crunchy fruit here and it will take more time for the fruit to surround the volcanic tannins. Clearly the Juliénas needs much more elevage, but it should become a good example of what this overlooked appellation can produce.

This comes from a 0.8ha plot of 80-90 year old vines. It is aged for 12-14 months in large, old oak barrels, which have enriched the black fruits and powered the tannins while keeping plenty of berry juiciness. With some air this can be enjoyed in its youth, but if you enjoy aged wines this will comfortably cellar for 8-10 years.
